The IoT Engineering major enrolled in its first cohort in 2012 and graduated its first class in 2016. It was selected as a Jiangsu Provincial First-Class Major in 2019, the same year it hosted the Jiangsu Engineering Research Center for IoT Device Hyper-Converged Application and Security. In 2020, it was designated as a National First-Class Major Construction Site. Supported by this major, the Vehicle Networking Industrial College was approved as a Jiangsu Provincial Key Modern Industrial College in 2022, an MIIT "Specialized, Refined, and Innovative" Industrial College in 2023, and a Jiangsu Provincial Industry-Education Integration Key Base in 2023. In 2024, it was approved as a Wuxi Municipal Industry-Education Integration Demonstration Major and a Jiangsu Provincial Brand Major Construction Site. This major also serves as a key support program for the Wuxi Sensor Network National University Science Park, the first national-level university science park in China themed around sensor networks.In 2025, it was approved as a key laboratory for universities in Jiangsu Province. In the same year, it was approved as the Wuxi City Vehicle Road Cloud Integration Platform Innovation Consortium, Wuxi City Internet of Things Concept Verification Center, and further deepened the integration of industry and education.
