College Overview
The School of Internet of Things Engineering (School of Computer Science and Software) (hereinafter referred to as the School of Internet of Things Engineering) was formerly the Department of Computer Science of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology Binjiang College, which was established in 2002 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It has the comprehensive advantages of interdisciplinary integration of computer science, electronics, communications, and mathematics. Adhering to the purpose of serving national and regional economic development, the school focuses on the demand for innovative application-oriented talents in the key development areas of "one sensing and two networks". It adheres to the student training approach of "student development as the center, job demand as the guide, and industry-education integration as the key", strengthens the construction of the "industry-university-research-transformation-creation-application" system, closely follows the development trend of industry, and cultivates application-oriented talents in the fields of information, computer science, and big data.
[Majors Offered] The college currently offers four undergraduate programs: Internet of Things Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Computer Science and Technology, and Software Engineering.Among them, the Internet of Things Engineering program was approved as a national first-class undergraduate program in 2020, a Jiangsu Province industry-education integration brand program in 2022, and a Jiangsu Province brand program project and Wuxi City industry-education integration demonstration program in 2024. The Computer Science and Technology program was approved as a Jiangsu Province first-class program in 2021. The Vehicle Networking Industry College, supported by the Internet of Things Engineering, Telecommunications Information Engineering, and Computer Science and Technology programs, was successfully approved as a Jiangsu Province key industry college and a Ministry of Industry and Information Technology "Specialized, Refined, and Innovative" industry college in 2023, a Jiangsu Province key base for industry-education integration, and a Wuxi City Vehicle Networking Industry-Education Integration Community.
[Faculty] The college boasts a strong faculty, possessing a young and energetic team with a reasonable structure in terms of academic qualifications and professional titles, and high overall quality. The college has one outstanding science and technology innovation team recognized by Jiangsu provincial universities, one foreign academician (flexibly introduced), one teaching master of Jiangsu Province, one "333 Project" talent of Jiangsu Province, four "Qing Lan Project" trainees, and nine "Science and Technology Associate" talents of Jiangsu Province.
[Quality Engineering] The college actively deepens the education and teaching reform and quality improvement project, promotes textbook construction and curriculum reform, and promotes industry-education integration. It has been approved for nearly 30key teaching and research projects from the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Department and the Jiangsu Provincial Higher Education Society, and has been approved for 6 key textbooks and 8 first-class courses in Jiangsu Province. It has also jointly built 12 industry-education integration courses and textbooks with partner companies.
[Scientific Research] The college has vigorously promoted scientific and technological innovation, and its scientific research capabilities have been significantly improved. In recent years, it has undertaken more than 30 projects, including projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Jiangsu Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and enterprises and institutions. It has published more than 80 academic papers in important domestic and international academic journals and conferences, published more than 10 academic monographs, obtained more than 100 software copyrights, 53 patents, and transferred 9 technologies.
[Talent Cultivation] The college has always regarded talent cultivation as its fundamental task and has continuously deepened educational and teaching reforms to cultivate specialized talents with solid theoretical foundations, strong practical application abilities, and innovative capabilities. In recent years, the admission scores for the majors have increased year by year, and now they rank among the top in similar universities in the province. The quality of the student body has significantly improved. The employment rate and the rate of students taking the postgraduate entrance examination are also among the top in similar universities in the province. In the past three years, the initial employment rate of graduates has been above 95%, the total employment rate has been above 98%, the high-quality employment rate has been above 14%, and the relevance of the job to the major is higher than 80%. In addition, the admission rate for postgraduate studies has remained above 15% for three consecutive years. A large number of students have been admitted to 985, 211 and dual-first-class universities such as Nanjing University, Jiangnan University, Hohai University, and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology. Students have won 33 national awards and 246 provincial awards in competitions such as "Internet +" and "Challenge Cup". A total of 189 provincial and school-level student innovation and entrepreneurship training projects have been approved.
[Social Service] The college continuously deepens industry-education cooperation, focusing on the actual talent needs of industry and society, constantly innovating talent training models, and pooling the advantages of multiple parties to build a collaborative innovation platform. It focuses on three key industry areas: intelligent sensors, connected vehicles, and the industrial internet. It has established stable and long-term industry-university collaborative innovation platforms with more than 20 partner companies, including Tianan Intelligent Connectivity, Xinxiang Technology, Chelian Tianxia, and the Wuxi Internet of Things Research Institute, effectively promoting collaborative development between the college and enterprises. Many graduates have entered the workforce of these partner companies, effectively serving local industries, and the college's graduate retention rate in Wuxi has been increasing year by year.
[Advantages and Characteristics] Wuxi's strong IoT industry foundation and diverse application scenarios provide the college with a broad practical platform, abundant resources for industry-academia-research cooperation, and numerous opportunities for collaboration across its various disciplines. Following Wuxi's IoT industry layout of "one sensing, two networks," the college actively engages in deep industry-education integration with leading local enterprises, forming an innovative "school-enterprise-industry" talent cultivation model to jointly promote talent development and technological innovation. Furthermore, the college has established a stable, high-quality, and well-structured research and teaching team led by foreign academicians and national-level talents. In addition, the college boasts several provincial and ministerial-level platforms, including the only ministerial-level and provincial-level vehicle networking industry college in the country, a provincial-level engineering research center, and a provincial-level industry-education integration innovation base, laying a solid foundation for the college's development in industry, science, and education.
